PHOTO TIPS FOR THE HEAD AND SCALP
from two inches above head to two inches below chin

submit two photos: one with the head tilted forward (chin to chest) and one from the front looking straight ahead
• comb your hair back, away from face
ensure photo is taken straight-on (same area of ear on both sides)
leave some extra space at the edges of the photo, especially the sides

TECHNICAL TIPS

background
use a light to medium solid color background
remove other items from the scene so that it's just you and the solid background

shadows and lighting
when possible, try to avoid harsh shadows by stepping forward from the background or lighting the background separately
be sure that there is plenty of light while avoiding strong overhead lights or lighting only from one side, which contribute to shadows

camera position
position the camera at the same height as the area being photographed so that the camera does not distort the image by being tilted up or down

body position
maintain good posture; stand up straight
for angled and side views, be sure to position your feet and entire body at a 45 or 90 degree angle, and not just twist your head

focus and framing
clear, sharp focus will produce the best results
try to fill as much of the picture with the designated area while still maintaining sharp focus. (this is usually no closer than 4 feet, depending on the camera)
make sure that the entire face is included in the picture and not cut off at the edge
